Panoramas of Lincoln, Maine

Town of Lincoln, Maine from Mattanawcook Pond

August 3, 2015, 12:23 PM

This is the town I grew up in. The 2010 census lists the population at 5,085. It covers an area of 74.65 square miles and has 13 beautiful ponds and lakes, of which Mattanawcook Pond is probably the largest. This is the view of the waterfront, beach, and downtown area from Mattanawcook Pond on a typical summer afternoon. Mattanawcook Junior High School and soccer fields are also visible, with Lincoln Paper & Tissue mill in the background, and a float plane near the beach. Click the preview image above to zoom in and pan around.

This 837 megapixel panorama measures 13 feet x 5 feet at its full resolution, and is 6.23GB in file size as a PSB file. It is stitched from 72 photos (4 rows of 18 columns) with AutoPano Giga and blended with Photoshop; RAW files were processed to 16-bit TIFFs with Lightroom. Shot with a Nikon D810, Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR II, Panoneed robotic head, Promote Control, and Really Right Stuff TVC-34L tripod & leveling base. Camera settings were 200mm, f/8, ISO 64, 1/200, manual focus, and 6286°K manual white balance. I used mirror lock up and electronic front curtain shutter with vibration detection enabled on the Panoneed to get sharp enough photos with the wind. Blending the moving clouds and waves took some care in Photoshop.
