A few months ago Matt Pollock and I met up and spent a week with Vincent Lawrence of in Acadia National Park testing a lot of new gear, including a Nikon D810, Nikon Df, AstroTrac, various panning heads, and some new timelapse hardware and software. This was one of the first Milky Way test shots we took comparing the D700, D800, D810, and Df. Cloud cover quickly rolled in, making the test rather pointless. Vincent is down on the rocks with his Canon 5D Mark II.

This is a composite of two exposures: 30 seconds for the sky and 240 seconds for the ground, manually blended in Photoshop. Shot at 14mm, f/2.8, and ISO 4000. RAW conversion was done with Lightroom with a 3667° white balance.

Equipment used: Nikon D700, Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8, Promote Control, Really Right Stuff TVC-34L tripod and BH-40 ballhead with camera L plate.
