Campfire at NEOC
A 43% moon rises to the left behind our campfire while the Milky Way shines to the right at New England Outdoor Center on October 13, 2017, 00:40. I set the camera in the shadow of a large pine tree lit by one of the cabins for this panorama; I liked the sharp patterns of the shadows across the lawn. Stitching data: 2 rows of 6 images for a total of 12 photos. This is a 3:1 crop from a 360 panorama. Equipment used: Nikon D850, Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8, Nodal Ninja RD16-II, and Really Right Stuff TVC-34L tripod, leveling base, & pano/gimbal head. Edited in Lightroom, aligned with PTGui, and blended in Photoshop. Nadir patched with Pano2VR.
Aurora over Mount Katahdin
While sitting in front of a warm campfire at New England Outdoor Center, I set up my camera a few feet away to shoot a timelapse of the Aurora Borealis over Mt. Katahdin and Millinocket Lake on October 12, 2017, 00:15. Vega shines brightly to the left and a 54% moon lit the mountain and pine trees. Camera settings: 24mm, f/2.8, ISO 5000, 20 seconds for the sky and f/2.8, ISO 800, 510 seconds for the foreground. Equipment used: Nikon D850, Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8, and Really Right Stuff TVC-34L tripod & BH-55 ballhead. Edited in Lightroom, blended in Photoshop.
Milky Way Takes Flight
The Milky Way shines over Katahdin Air’s 6-passenger Cessna StationAir II float plane docked at Spencer Cove in Millinocket, Maine, October 10, 2017, 19:36. Camera settings: 24mm, f/4, ISO 1600, 5 seconds for the foreground and f/2.8, ISO 3200, 15 seconds for the sky. Equipment used: Nikon D850, Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8, and Really Right Stuff TVC-34L tripod & BH-55 ballhead. Edited in Lightroom, blended in Photoshop.
